Troubleshooting Thursday

Had some Internet trouble here at the homestead tonight and had to call tech support. Ever been on hold so long you figure you might as well do something like go to the bathroom? And of course, once you're "in position," that's when the tech comes on the line ready to help... with the Internet problem. No, not help with the bathroom stuff. That's just sick, people.

See, THAT'S sick, and possibly racist, since I immediately assumed it would be a call from India (though I think they may give them Western names to keep the Bible Belt folks calling with dial-up problems from screaming, "Al Quida's on the phone! Oh my God!!!")

Hmm. Now it's possibly racist and definitely classist. I'll stop here.

Having worked in tech support, I can assure you, there are more people going to the bathroom when the tech gets on the line than you'd think.

Although, there are some other, uh, compromising positions that I've caught people in when they've been on hold for too long. Being in the bathroom is the least of the tech's worries.
